Passion in Practice
When was the last time you allowed yourself to pursue something you were passionate about? Trusted your intuition enough to follow your dreams—and devoted resources to making them a reality?
We are fortunate to work with many individuals who prioritize following their passion, because it means that they have a better opportunity to impact the lives of others. These individuals inspire us every day with their fearlessness and we’d love to share stories of two in particular: Lori Carnsnew, MD and Andreas Thyssen, MD.
Lori Carnsnew, MD didn’t just dream of opening a practice to bring Lifestyle Medicine to the people who needed it in her home community, she made it happen. Verity Primary Medicine and Lifestyle is a Direct Primary Care practice in South Carolina. Opened in 2017 with about 40 patients, the practice has grown quickly. In just a few years, she has added to her services and even welcomed another practitioner to keep up with the demand. Lori serves as an important resource for the community and offers valuable tools that showcase the relationship between food, lifestyle and health. With a little strategy and design help from Enrich, she’s even developed an educational booklet to reach the parts of her local community who need to hear her message most. Tools like a blood pressure tracking card help individuals monitor specific conditions and think about what changes they might be willing to make. In the future, Lori plans to create a lifestyle medicine center to continue changing lives. We can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes!
As a hospitalist working in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Andreas Thyssen, MD knew he could do more for his patients. He realized that he was managing their symptoms but not actually treating the root cause of their illnesses. A nutrition-focused approach was the answer, but there still wasn’t time to share this knowledge during the normal, in-hospital treatment process. Frustrated, he looked around and noticed that his colleagues were also under considerable stress. They were overworked, not caring for themselves and some were even approaching burnout. Confident that he could make a difference, Andreas envisioned his own solution—a coaching practice where he could work 1-on-1 with patients who wanted to dive deeper into achieving better health and where he could also offer support to his practitioner friends. This vision became reality when Andreas took a leap of faith and launched LifestyleMD. With his new website, he has the space to share knowledge he’s gained about lifestyle medicine and truly support those who he cares about the most.
